Snowmobiling in the Maine Highlands

The Maine Highlands has a long history of snowmobiling.  There are hundreds of trails including the Interstate Trail System (ITS) and its tributaries which can take you into Canada and other New England states as well as the remote areas of Maine.

Schoodic Escape Cabin is located in Piscataquis County and is near some great snowmobile trails.  Our cabin has a covered veranda where you can park your snowmobile for easy access.  The closest trail is the Katahdin Ironworks Trail; the connector trail to the ITS 83.  Take a tour around Mount Katahdin on the Katahdin Loop Trail.

To check the snow depth amounts, check out Northeast River Forecast Center Map.

Taking a break on the trailBefore you head out, you may want to check out some trail maps. You can view state wide ITS trail maps. The local ITS trail map is shown Moosehead, Jackman, The Forks, Bingham Area ITS Trail Map. The Blue Ridge Riders have a local map that also shows Route 66.

Check out the Maine Snowmobile trail conditions. View Rockwood trail report.
